Stick to your hardware, people. If you buy overpriced stuff, you’re signaling that you accept their manipulating practices and making them even richer
Also, it’s not like there has been some high new advancement that puts our current stuff out of competitiveness
until wirth’s law catches up to you… it wont be better software, it will be worse, but it will also be way slower.
wirths law is really just a form of jevons paradox imo

Love the Y2K throwback.
The protogens are going to starve
Are DDR4 prices also bad? Might have to switch to DDR3. I don’t even know what the differences between them are, all I know is the lower numbers are generally slower. I bet I could game and use my PC with DDR3 though. Or is last-last-generation also expensive now?
I guess the only issue is that my motherboard supports DDR4 and not DDR3, so I’d have to either use my really old PC (which barely manages to run a Minecraft server) or buy a new motherboard that supports my processor and DDR3 (it’s unlikely such a board exists, AM4 slot + DDR3 slot, really?)
Anyway, I’ll just hope my 16 gigs never “go bad”. I never had DDR5, and I sure won’t be having it now…
Tl;Dr it’s faster and uses less power so it’s just better for everything
If you’re not playing new AAA games you don’t actually need it though, for now.
Well, also less ram on stick and older CPUs (ram isn’t backwards compatible).
I can’t even find where to buy DDR5 in my country (but it’s Slovenia so…).
I was able to purchase 128gb of ddr3 a few months ago. 8gb sticks of Samsung ECC for $17 a pop.
that’s still almost doubled from what it was a while back - i bought a bunch of 16GiB DDR3 ECC sticks about 3 years ago for $20 each
So glad I got 128Gb RAM in my new PC about a year ago.

I caved and bought some, 2x16GB KLEVV DDR5 6000MTs CL30 for £360, believing the predictions. If it actually lowers by March next year I’ll be so sad
