I wonder if this is part of the reason her dad was in His Dark Materials. I vaguely remember seeing somewhere that he auditioned to be there to make sure that she was all right. Since that was after Logan, they might have had a family agreement to let her act, but keep an eye out for people offering her hard drugs.

Anyway, I thought she was great for the role of Lyra, and her dad was an excellent creepy cardinal.

How despicable do you have to be to offer cocaine to an 11-year-old girl? How can your moral compass be so wrong?

As horrible as that is I can’t help but think it’s one of the less traumatic things that could have happened. Idk what parent would EVER let their kid go to hollywood and spend a single second without them in the same room watching them. This is the place where Harvey Weinstein reigned as one of the most powerful people around for decades while being a serial rapist. It’s just a cesspool.

I understand his marriage went to shit in an unflattering way, but I’ve never heard anything to imply he’s something worse than a cheater, and even then you never know what really led a marriage to unravel or over what timeline.

My brother has been with his wife 18 years. She stopped sleeping with him a decade ago. They went to counseling, she said it was a waste of time. He travels a lot… He started to find his own fun.

She’s not evil, she’s not cheating. She’s mega depressed and won’t get help.

Obviously there’s LOT more to this story I’m not sharing, but these are the pertinent bits.

I think this is a great illustration that life is complicated. They obviously still love each other enough to stay together. There is so much more to a relationship than sex. If he’s getting his needs met and they can make it work, I won’t judge. It’s disappointing she won’t get help but sometimes people need to hit rock bottom before they’re ready to accept help.

Yeah, just because your personal life gets complicated at some point, it doesn’t make you a monster. Some of the kindest, most open-hearted people I know are also the biggest, messiest drama-royalty you will ever see. Hell, the two may even go together since they both involve processing big feelings.

I can’t rewatch Enchanted because there is a literal reference to the Epstein sex crime-pipeline at the end of the movie and it is so gross.

I love that movie and Amy Adams is fantastic, but I can never unsee that degenerate shit ever again.

It’s also not on accident because the executive producer on Enchanted was one of Epsteins’ good friends, Barry Josephson, who is in the Epstein files, where he corresponds with him about finding him new hot girls to fuck.

I always thought about a comedy skit where there’s a place like the X-Men Academy, except it’s child actors being mentored by former child stars.

Drew Barrymore was in rehab before she turned 21, and Tatum O’Neil won an Oscar when she was nine.

The Barrymore and Drew ancestry she has is particularly bonkers. She comes from an unbroken (though slightly zig-zaggy on a family tree) line of actors going back literally 200 years, many of them with notoriously unhappy personal stories. Celebrity gossip is that her daughter(s) may eventually act, which would bump it from 6 to 7 generations.

AI should just replace child actors. We’ve known for a while that child labor is bad in nearly every other industry but we “needed” it in film industry because there was no way around it. Now there is a way around it and no need to subject children to the exploitation of Hollywood.

So instead of demanding better standards and culture around child actors, we should instead build more data centers to make AI children. Bad take my dude.

Child labor is inherently exploitative. No matter what standards or culture you put around it children should not be working.

Even if every adult treats the child perfectly there’s still psychological damage involved in being a child star. I’d rather a data center get built then have a child suffer from trauma.

The data center causes pollution and also steals the water from MANY children. This is some galaxy-brain stuff.

We could save on water and pollution by using children for anything we already use machines for, that doesn’t make it right.

Should we have children toiling in the mines because the mechanical drill uses too much water and emits pollution?

    • There used to be a time in theatre when men played every role, including that of women or children. What the fuck ever happened to acting? You’re not acting like a child if you literally are a child. Get Hugh Jackman to play the 11 year old girl, and the 11 year old girl to play Wolverine. That’ll show off their acting chops better.

What we need is a shared expectation that characters meant to represent young children should be played by puppets.

And to be clear - not lifelike animatronics. Just floppy felt puppets.
