Ignoring any contracts involving injuries etc.
For an active player to be making $25M a year on 8 PPG. Yes he’s good on the defensive end, but as far as offensive production… $100M for a 33 year old who averaged 8 PPG in the last 3 seasons?
The offensive value for any other player with average defense would be $10M or less. I just don’t see an additional $15M worth on the defensive end.
As incomprehensibly flawed as it is to evaluate a player in terms of ppg, yes, Draymond is the most offensively limited player on a contract of that size. A player with Draymond’s offensive limitations and average defense would be out of the league.
However, Draymond is one of the best defenders in the league. If he was even an average player on offense he’d probably command a max contract.
So yes, a player being paid for one skill can look really bad when evaluated in terms of another skill.
Were you alive in 2016?
Apparently you didn’t watch Ben Simmons last year?
Never thought I’d be defending Draymond but just points per game against contract Gobert makes more than Draymond does. Draymond isn’t really even that far off Tobias Harris, known as a scorer, last year.
Simmons signed his contract back in 2019 though before he started going down hill… He was young and still an up and coming star.
I don’t think any team has offered $25M a year for someone who produces 8 points per game.
You’re blind my dude. You can’t compare age in contracts. Ben got paid and quiet quit. Draymond is paid to be a major factor in the chemistry of GSW. I hate both guys, but you take Draymond out of that lineup and that team drastically changes. You remove Ben from any lineup and they probably get better.
Stop stat watching
He’s comparing Ben Simmons contract compared to his production. Ben was 23 when he signed his deal and was the face of the 76ers at the time. So his deal back then, made sense.
I don’t know why nobody understands this post lol. My post is asking if any other player has received a major contract, with such a low PPG. I know he is impactful in every other area, that’s literally what I’m asking if there are other players who got a bag not for there scoring, but for their impact on the floor.
I think you forgot to switch from your burner account.
Again, age means nothing when it comes to contract.
Team impact means everything. You don’t have to be a dominant scorer to have a major impact on a team that has won 4 championships so far.
Nobody understands your post because your logic is wrong and you’re looking at age and stats vs what they actually bring to the table. Ben brings nothing. Draymond is the master of playing small ball 5 and hindering opposing offenses.
Ben also was NOT the building piece when he got his contract, it was spoken and clearly Embiid. We don’t have to try and pretend. Ben was angry because he wasn’t the top priority.
Ben is afraid to shoot, can only play defense. Draymond isn’t afraid to shoot, nor is he encouraged to. Their scheme allows him to play bully ball while helping those around him. Ben won’t step inside the 3pt line or allow for spacing on his team because he poses no threat on offense. If you pose no threat, it’s 5v4, but when you’re at least capable of scoring or making a shot, you must be defended.
Bro said burner account 💀
You’re probably right, but there’s likely a premium paid for a “sure” thing. Plus with Iggy retiring, there could also be some element of a “thank you” payment in the contract too since I doubt Draymond’s gonna be balling as he enters 40.
Maybe Rodman? In 96/97 he made $9M for about 5 ppg. Now add in the context that the salary cap was $24 M, and I think it’s a strong case. Yes, there were different rules about signing your own players, but still, gotta be up there.
Someone actually understands my post.
Exactly what I’m asking. Rodman was super impactful everywhere else other than PPG and got paid for it.
the season needs to start like yesterday
Gobert gets paid more for being a similar level of scorer and likely a worse offensive player
Good point.
If you’re that concerned about his PPG vs how much money he’s making, you’re still underrating Draymond
OP might have a point IF you’re willing to only focus on PPG, but what is the point of doing so? None of us are under the delusion that Draymond’s value is in his scoring. This post won’t sway either side of the Draymond debate. This has as much value as comparing Curry’s blocks vs contract or Isaiah Thomas’ dunks vs contract.
Efficient scoring is the most valuable asset for a player. Draymond Green is getting paid a huge bag for everything else but his PPG. And my post is discussing what other players received similar deals for their impact, and than scoring.
Does that make sense?
OP taking shots back at people who are calling him out for implying Draymond’s contract is bad. Wake up buddy, when you say “worst” you are putting a subjective opinion that low ppg = bad. The Dubs are paying him because he is the heart beat of the team.
Even if i really dont like draymond, this guy is crucial for gsw. Steph, Klay, Dray embody gsw
Well, you can’t compare him to other offensive stiffs like Rodman and Wallace bc the $ today is so different
They don’t pay people $$$ based solely on your PPG, though. If we lived in a reality where PPG was the only true determining value of one’s worth as a player, then sure, you could make that argument.
In our reality, Professional basketball is a lot more complex than that.
