It actually collects under your lids. I pulled a small hair ball out of my tear duct area once.
Does your eye do a small cough before pulling a hairball out?
PSA for people actually worrying about this: human anatomy doesn’t work this way and it can’t actually happen. Your human body is capable of much more pernicious things that are much more unspeakably horrible than what you see here. So you should focus on that instead. Cheers 🥂
I know it doesn’t work this way. That would be ridiculous. But that won’t stop my brain from imagining it from time to time going forward.
I have this one eyelash that grows really long and sticks in my eye. It takes it ages to get to that length but then it’s really irritating until I cut it and cutting a single eyelash is not easy.
Honestly plucking it might be a little painful, but I’d imagine immensely more safe than having a pair of blades close to your eye to try and trim it…

All hair falls out eventually. It’s designed to do that to keep different hairs at different terminal lengths. That doesn’t mean plucking a hair from an active follicle is the same as a hair falling out during the shedding phase. It’s not as bad as shaving to the skin, but still more traumatic than falling out naturally.
i once got a disposable contact stuck deep behind my eye and I couldn’t get it out. After fussing with it, which felt like forever, it seemed to disappear. I swore it went behind my eye but I visited the eye doctor, and he assured me that I must have blinked it out without realizing. He said that you would know if there was still something back behind your eyes, as even an eyelash will cause you major discomfort if it gets back there
One should know. Apparently, some don’t notice for awhile.

When I asked her to look down, I could see the edges of a couple of contacts stuck to each other. Pulling them out, I felt like I could still see more and asked my assistant to get my phone to record the removal.
Asking the patient to look down again, I could see a huge, dark-purple blob of contact lenses stuck to her eye. It almost looked like a second pupil. I gently started using a Q-tip to peel the lenses apart one by one, like you would deal a deck of cards. They were coming out in a chain, drooping down her lid. There were a lot of contact lenses — I thought this could be my Guinness Book of World Record moment.

My father in law used to wear contacts.
He would often forget them and wear them to bed, sometimes for days, and then when he went to do things in the morning, sometimes one would be missing.
This went on for several years and one day he brings up some “minor discomfort” in his left eye.
After some deduction, a lot of eye rolling and tons of pain, they managed to get most of the pieces to about 10-12 contacts behind the left eye, and 4-5 in the right eye.
They sometime ripped and seprted into different spots around his eye and he apparently was in a massive mount of pain before actually speaking up about it.
I had an eyelash grow toward my eyeball once and I thought I was dying…

I actually got a contact stuck behind my eyelid for a few weeks. It felt like an eyelash and didn’t bother me too much until one day I saw a small blue thing on the top of my eye and after a lot of tries I got it out. It basically displved itself. I went to the doctor and just gave me some eye drops in case of infection but he said everything looked ok
I never have this problem. The spiders would keep the lashes out. They are fastidious cleaners.

After mostly snoozing through The English Patient, I somehow managed to get intrigued by the idea of washing my hair with olive oil, like one of the characters did onscreen.
Tried it the next day, and wound up having olive oil in my eye sockets for the next couple days. For me, it was much worse than going to the optometrist’s office and getting the eye-drops that kept one from focusing for the next ~4hrs.
So yeah, that was the first & last time I tried that. :S

I always assumed they get absorbed or break down eventually.
Hair doesn’t really do that, hence ingrown hairs. Your eye just flushes them out eventually
No unfortunatelythey do not. The eye spiders that live under your bed come and eat them in the middle of the night

Keratin is pretty tough, it doesn’t degrade easily.
They get flushed out through your nose. If you’ve ever noticed how when your eyes water your nose runs too: they’re connected. Your snot is the cleaning mechanism that traps dust, hairs, and bacteria and flushes it all out.

the body is supposed to have some auto-cleaning function so even if that did happen it should clean itself up after a while.
