Well, that’s it, no more gas station warm chicken sashimi for me.

What!?! 25% contaminated? Thank goodness again i’m not living in the US.
Do they have any food that is not trying to kill you in that country?
It’s part of a rebranding, a branding similar to Australia, just with food trying to kill you instead of animals.
Yeah, pillows and socks. But that isn’t really food.
Just you wait until that pillow jumps on top of your face one night!
Because in trump’s America, only the rich get to eat safe food.
Soft eugenics and trump, look it up.
It’s worth noting that this was a rising problem during the Biden administration too, from the article:
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service inspects poultry plants monthly. The new report shows that five U.S. poultry plants exceeded maximum allowable salmonella contamination every month from 2020 to 2024. These included a Carthage, Mo., turkey plant owned by Butterball, a Dayton, Va., turkey plant owned by Cargill Meat Solutions, and a chicken plant located in Cunning, Ga., that is owned by Koch Foods. A Costco chicken producer, Lincoln Premium Poultry, exceeded the standard in 54 of 59 inspections.
Not surprised. Everyone bad mouths “the limits of grown”. But every time I read stuff like this it is what comes to mind. You can only push things so far then they break in unique and unusual ways. You can’t destroy the ecosystem and climate and use industrial farming then expect nothing bad to happen.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Limits_to_Growth#Criticism_and_responses
Though the issue is a bit more specific than just industrial farming in this case. Meat, dairy, etc. production is inherently really inefficient compared to eating plants because you have to do so much more farming for animal feed where most of the energy is lost
we show that plant-based replacements for each of the major animal categories in the United States (beef, pork, dairy, poultry, and eggs) can produce twofold to 20-fold more nutritionally similar food per unit cropland. Replacing all animal-based items with plant-based replacement diets can add enough food to feed 350 million additional people, more than the expected benefits of eliminating all supply chain food loss.
can add enough food to feed 350 million additional people
Good thing birth rates are declining and we’ll all be dead from climate change related disasters and shortages before we need to worry about supporting another 350 million people.
For what it’s worth, moving towards a plant-based diet also helps with climate change too
Transitioning to plant-based diets (PBDs) has the potential to reduce diet-related land use by 76%, diet-related greenhouse gas emissions by 49%, eutrophication by 49%, and green and blue water use by 21% and 14%, respectively, whilst garnering substantial health co-benefits
Good thing
Whew!
The potus has the power to remove regulation across the board but very little to actually enforce them. If new rules mean 1 in 4 chicken nuggets has salmonella, that’s on Trump. But if Republican states want to stonewall & ignore food safety inspections, that’s not on Biden.
What do you mean? The presidency has enormous power at this point, and when it comes to enforcing regulation the power is actually granted by Congress
All the president has to do is convince these few companies that they’re actually in danger of operations being shut down, even temporarily. They will respond a lawsuit to block this if they think that would be the easier path, but there’s any number of ways to bring them in line. They’d lose an enormous amount of money for every day they’re shut down… If they believe cleaning up their operations is going to be the cheaper path, they’ll make changes unbelievably fast
The presidency also has enormous soft power… If the president calls a company out publicly for food safety, the share price will drop, grocers will switch suppliers if they can, and it’ll affect sales
It all hinges on reputation though… It might take following through on a threat to bring the rest in line, but once they see food safety as the cost of doing business with no cheaper option, they’ll absolutely fall in line
I would argue that we didn’t elect the president to just set regulations, we elect the president to solve problems. Creating a regulation and not enforcing it properly doesn’t solve any problems.

Cook chicken

Eat chicken

No food poisoning
Just don’t eat your chicken raw.

I mean, we could have guessed. How else would it make sense? But there is also Heritage foundations ideal population of 100 million, the elite clearly hating the poor, and making sure the poor get nothing good in life from them. They are libertarian too.
Chicken can have a little salmonella, as a treat.
Treat for who? Lmao
The salmonella
One-quarter of you may die, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make,
What clown ass country is this?
North Kor… wait
The same country that boasts themselves with freedom, but when you buy property there you are cucked by the HOA so you can’t even do shit on your OWN property lol
It’s literally in the water the chicken bodies float along in a lazy icy river, so it has to be cooked hot enough to kill the pathogens. Air chilled chicken reduces this, but the body juices with the salmonella can still get contaminated onto the meat, but doesn’t add the water weight. I get air chilled sometimes, seems good fully cooked.
Chicken bodies float,
In lazy icy river,
Salmonella coats
“Regulations stifle euh invention”
/s
they use mostly the non diseased parts of diseased animals
WHAT THE FUCK CAN I EAT?!
Jalapeños, lettuce, chicken, eggs, I know I’m missing a recent plant that started spreading something last month.
Just cook your chicken. This is why the safe cooking temperature is drilled into food workers, especially with poultry.
Frozen blueberries, rice…
Clorox scented diluted cleaning products also have bacteria in them, hence recalls…
…RICE?!
I knew about different levels of arsenic present in American-grown rice, especially brown rice, which is why I switched to Basmati and Jasmine rice. What else happened to rice?!
Rinsing the rice helps reduce arsenic levels.
The bleach was not recalled, only scented Mistolin Dilutable Cleaners and scented Lestoil Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Cleaner.
Sorry, thanks for correcting me. I got too doomer and got lazy, but I should hold myself up to basic standards.
Yeah, Clorox produces these products, but the bleach itself is fine, it’s just these two cleaners and only the ones sold in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Clorox is recalling about 6.3 million bottles of scented Mistolin Dilutable Cleaners and scented Lestoil Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Cleaners over concerns the products may be contaminated with dangerous bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall was announced Sept. 3 and covers products sold in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands at major retailers including Walmart, Sam’s Club and Costco.
seems to be a bunch of them: radishes, mangoes, alfalfa sprouts.
chickens naturally have salmonella in them, but its the way they farm the poultry thats the problem.
Alright, guess im on a potato and multivitamin diet exclusively now
What a coincidence, about 25% of the country deserves it
nah, you all do.
how is it that you curse whole other countries when they vote right wing, but when it is the us you suddenly say that it ia not everyone?

edit: got americ*ned
Are you saying everyone in the US does that?
The issue is the USA’s giant flocks from the oligopolist’s farms andcontracted farms, who themselves are shortchanged and exploited by the meatpacker cartel.
in the king corn documentary you hear from this guy who is processing chickens outdoors and talks about flak he gets with regulators and he is like you test our chicken next to the ones in packages and it comes up better and the ones in the package was bathed in bleach solution. Its been awhile so im paraphrasing. good documentary though.
That issue is not unique to the US, both in terms of giant factory farms and consolidation. Factory farming is the dominate mode of global meat, dairy, etc. production
For instance, Three Companies Have ‘Almost Complete Market Domination’ Of UK Poultry Supply
Essentially I am contrasting it with Canadian supply managed chicken (which is one thing the USA has been long trying to make Canada give up), which allows…
- smaller flocks that can more easily manage biosecurity
- an enforced ban on growth hormones
- less of a stranglehold from the meatpackers
- avoids a race to the bottom for quality to compete on price, meaning stable prices and consistent quality
In Canada, there is a set number of chickens.
Sure it’s worse in the US, but that’s not saying a lot. The meat, dairy, egg, etc. industries aren’t that much rosier in Canada or anywhere in the world
There’s still plenty of factory farming Canada, practices like Gestation Crates are still dominant at 70% of pig farms in Canada, there’s an active ongoing lawsuit about Ontario’s ag-gag laws at the Canadian Supreme court right now, etc.
Hogs aren’t supply managed and the difference is apparent. And absolutely, i’m no vegan but fuck Doug Ford’s industry kowtow with the ag-gag law.
and consistent quality
Kinda wild that most store-bought chicken doesn’t taste good at all. At least it’s not making us sick. 😄
I don’t diss supply mgmt. Just personal taste opinion. I think supply mgmt is very important for us and its benefits are obvious.
Chicken parts sold in the store in the US are absolutely monstrous compared to Canada, the typical grocery store chicken thigh is half the size in Canada.
That’s crazy. The Canadian ones are monstrous compared to what we used to grow in our European backyard thirty years ago.
