A necessary step in their plan is to eliminate all private gun ownership. Trump is just moving along as his handler/masters want.

It was doubtful the wannabe dictator was going to allow guns after he entrenched himself - seems inevitable. I tried to tell the dipshits I know who vote Repubtard because of guns, but they’re a smoothbrained lot.

Not the lobby, no. Some 2nd Amendment fans in the public, but in contrast the NRA have already issued statements in support of Donald Trump’s gestapo murdering people in the street over concealed carry.

Trump makes enemies of everyone eventually. The only surprising thing is that the gun lobby thought Mr. “Take the guns first, go through due process second” was their ally in the first place.

I mean its crazy that if anything Ice created perfect advertising for the gun lobby.

They took Alex Pretti’s gun and immediately shot him once he was disarmed. This couldn’t make better advertising for people to go out and buy guns. It is a speedrun of everything 2nd amendment worshippers said they were against. And two other bystandnearby didnt have guns, weren’t shot.

If you own a gun they coming for you as soon as you make the tinyest fuss. If you don’t own a gun they’ll shoot you next. Might as well own a gun.

Tbf many have hated him since he said that advocating for red flag laws and since he banned bumpstocks which opened up the ATF to regulate things they shouldn’t have been (and they’ve lost a lawsuit over it, so now they no longer are thankfully, but he still opened the door).

I hated him before that tbf but my pro-trump acquaintances started cracking around that time (especially because I was putting pressure on about it lol, calling him a gun grabber and all other manner of true things, did you know he was a lifelong Democrat until he ran betting he could trick the Republicans? Lol)

Now, most of them still say “yeah but the Democrats are worse on gun rights so we can’t vote for them” and tbh, they’re not entirely wrong, the Dems need to stop shooting themselves in the foot on gun rights 30yr ago, the political landscape would look so much different right now if they hadn’t wasted so much time pushing gun owners to the right and not arming themselves (well more accurately convincing their base not to arm themselves, the Dem party members all have guns and/or private security who carries guns because in their mind they’re “important” and their base is not.) It would take the Dems a long time of completely reversing their opinion on guns and actually pushing legislature that actually helps gun rights before the 2a supporters are going to trust them again, it can be done, but it’ll take at least a decade of consistent pro-2a actions. And it would be beneficial to do so, too, at the moment 2a supporters are pushed right then radicalized while they’re there, if gun rights aren’t a foothold for them anymore they’ll have to work that much harder and it could even be used by the Dems to radicalize those people for good instead of bad.

NGL, most of the 2a MAGA folks I know, are already on-point WRT Trump trying to undermine gun rights.

They are decidedly NOT happy about it.

Reminds me of Parks and Rec where Leslie is about to lose the election but then their opponent makes an anti 2A statement and gets destroyed by attack ads by the NRA and thus Leslie wins the election

So much about “We need 2A in order to be able to fight a rogue government”. I bet a good part of the ammosexual 2A apologist crowd has joined the US GeStaPo or at least is contemplating it.

trump has been harder on gun rights than other modern presidents even before this term…

A progressive that’s pro 2A would absolutely kill it in any election right now. And any politician who isn’t pro 2A at this point is telling us they don’t have what it takes if it comes to it.

That’s insane. “Pro-2A” isn’t a real position. The idea of a black man owning a gun is what’s at issue.

If voters just wanted a progressive with NRA friendly gun views, those were a dime a dozen twenty years ago. They all got swept out by Reagan Republicans

Timeline check. Reagan Republicans in 2005?

(Legit not sure if you’re a fellow millennial that goofed how long ago twenty years ago was, or if Reagan Republicans stuck around longer than I thought. I didn’t start paying attention to politics until college.)

          Reagan Republicans in 2005?

I guess Bush Republicans would be a better turn of phrase. But they all came out of the same White Flight that Reagan kicked off in the 1980s. The big Republican landslides of 1994, 2002, and 2010 either flipped or purged a bunch of the Kennedy Democrats from the Gulf Coast states and turned them into GOP strongholds.

The gerrymandering of the first Bush term also gave birth to a bunch of flipped House seats and state legislatures, ultimately paying off big in 2004 (and again in 2010 and 2014 and 2016 and 2022).

Thing is, that base puts the 2nd Amendment before ANYTHING else. If it turns out Trump wants to take away their firearms, tey’ll turn on him in a millisecond.

When I have to talk to the MAGA gun owners that I deal with, I bring the conversations around to the fact that Trump came out of New York City and he was raised in a political value system of gun restrictions… He just said all the right things he needed to - he lied, like he alwatys does - to get the hunters and shooters to vote for him, but really, he is NOT for the 2nd Amendment… Now… they’re starting to see it and take it as gospel.

Trump got elected playing to the white fear of a minority takeover of the United States…

I choose to play to their BIGGER fear, and that is of losing their gun rights.

The gun lobby’s care more about capitalist economics than they do about any actual right to bear arms ideology. I doubt any outrage they have stated is more than performative.

I don’t expect the gun lobby to ever full throatedly take a libertarian stance when the biggest purchaser within their space is the federal government and they represent gun manufacturers at the end of the day.
